Conrad Zdzierak, 30, robbed four banks, a credit union and a pharmacy while wearing a mask so lifelike that a black man was arrested for the crimes, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Even the mother of the wrongly accused man believed her son had committed the robberies after seeing CCTV footage on television.
Polish-born Zdzierak faces up to 35 years in prison for the robberies, committed between March and April in the state of Ohio.
His girlfriend called police when she saw two masks and dye-stained money used to track robbers.
Zdzierak bought the silicone masks from SPFXmasks, which usually makes them for films, haunted houses and stage shows.
"We do not condone any illegal activity with our masks," SPFXmasks owner Rusty Slusser said.
