CALLING ALL COMPUTER GEEKS! Empty
PostSubject: CALLING ALL COMPUTER GEEKS!   CALLING ALL COMPUTER GEEKS! EmptyDecember 3rd 2010, 11:41 pm

I am having three yes three things wrong with my Windows Vista 32 bit Compag laptop.

1. Sometimes my laptop can't find ANY wireless networks at all. I have to restart it several times before it finally picks up my network. Yes I have made sure my wlan switch is on. I have already updated my wifi adaptor. It says I already have the latest version.

2. I have this red and white X in front of my speaker icon on the taskbar. When I put the cursor on it it says "No audio output device is installed". Also I don't have the "Sound, video, and game controllers" option located in device manager.

3. My CD drive won't open. I don't know what's wrong with it. It just won't open when I press the button for it.

Yeah I know this thing is fucked up. My computer is 2 years old and is out of warranty. I have installed all updates that needed to be installed. I have tried system restore and even system recovery and neither fixed any of these problems. There isn't any viruses or anything and I haven't took it to a shop yet because I want to try some at home fixes first. Any solutions?

I have a compaq as well with Vista on it. It sounds like you have driver issues. Try to re-install your wireless network driver (Just google to download it). Re-install every driver that has issues. As for your CD drive, I'm not sure about that one.

Also, this belongs in the net.

My mom had a Compaq with Vista on it and it made me want to go to the Compaq company and Microsoft and shove it up their asses! She had the exact same problem.

If it isn't finding wireless networks, I don't know what to tell you. If you get one of those Verizon USB things that connect to the internet with ease, then you're all set (but it sucks if you don't have a Verizon contract and you have 2 internet providers)

I might agree with Strider on that issue. Vista is a bitch when it comes to protection and drivers. 7 finds drivers easier than Vista does (XP you have to search for hours for drivers... I should know. I took a computer hardware class).

Try a paper clip and poke in the small hole to force eject it and make sure that its clean from any crap or debris in there. Personally, Compaqs have cheap-ass parts. Worse than HP's parts.

That also sounds like a driver problem. Your best bet is to type in your error message into the google search bar. Chances are someone is having/had the same problem as you.
