Playstation 4.

There is no design, release date, or specs released on PS4 (not that I know of). However, from this article it seems PS4 will come at a cheaper cost then the PS3.

Every generation from PS1 to PS2 to PS3 marked a large jump in console tech and graphical power, I fail to see how gaming can get much better then it is. I know Nintendo is bringing in a new console (or this Project Cafe is suspected to be a new console), however Wii was last gen tech with motion control. Preference wise it was closer to PS2 then 360/PS3. I suppose a PS4 could just buff up PS3 stats, provide full 1080p on video games, etc. I fail to see how it could possibly match the leap from PS1 to PS2, or PS2 to PS3 though.

I'm wondering if Sony is going to ditch the PS3's cell processors and go more traditional PC style. It would make it easier for developers to program it, and may be cheaper (which if PS4 will be a cheaper console, would this be one of the factors). I also wonder myself if a PS4 would have PS3 backward compatibility, or even complete BC of all Playstation consoles. Honestly I was disappointed when Sony announced they cut the feature from the PS3.

Anyway unless Sony and Microsoft are really concerned about loosing market share to Nintendo's next console, I don't see PS4/whatever will follow 360 quite yet, not for another few years. But, if it was pushed early, what would you want from it?

Actually, how far can you advance in graphical improvements?

They better work on this for years before it's released. Honestly, I'm very content with PS3 and they are picking up on their exclusives.

I think anything before 2014 is too early for the PS4. The PS3 is such a powerful system that it's full potential hasn't even been met yet and it's not a good idea to release a new console before a previous console's full potential has been met. As a matter of fact, releasing a PS4 in 2012 or earlier would be counterproductive.

PS3 is pretty close to its max potential though. It doesn't matter much because PS2 had reached its limit 2 years prior to PS3's release.

I will welcome it with open arms as long as it isn't rushed and the price is indeed lower than the PS3. I bought my 40gb PS3 for $500 yeah.....but I do need more games for my PS3 also so I hope it doesn't come until a little while.

Back in 2006 Blu Ray was a major costly investment, so they can use PS3 tech at a cheaper cost now. There is no new media format, and I seriously doubt that full downloadable gaming is coming anytime Soon. Sony needs a system available to everyone, not only people with a top of the line internet connection. So I see them sticking with Blu-Ray.

A PS4, due to pricing, availability, and manufacturing cost will probably be more like a PS3.5. It'll have a much faster Blu-Ray drive and downloads, will be a much more powerful console overall, and will probably come with a 500 or 600GB HDD as standard for storage. It'll likely do everything PS3 does, maybe improve on some stuff. I really do hope they bring back backward compatibility, but not sure how much that'll cost, they might only allow it for PS3. Though having it for PS1 & PS2 as well would be sweet.

I'm guessing Sony, or anyone in this day and age, will be aiming for the $400 mark. If they went to release another console at $600 or more, I see no way of how it could possibly succeed. People now want the best deals, and HD no longer has the "woah" or "oh my god" factor it did in 2006. Anything with a launch price like PS3's in todays standards will just be looked at as overpriced.

I think in another topic you mentioned about buying a PS3........but you need to VASTLY improve your Ps2 collection AND start a PS3 collection before you would even consider a PS4 there are just way to many awesome games you'll end up passing up on.

I think in my opinion it would be the power of a PC with ALL games at 1080p (since only limited games go that high and most are 720p) And will have the same amount of Ram (Probably 1.5 gb ram) and if that happens, then there is no excuse that we can't use mods like for Fallout and other games (Unless Sony likes to be dicks and not do it) But that's just me.

Actually I'd just skip PS3, buy a PS4, then go back and buy PS3 games if I was interested in a series. I already skipped the PS1 era going straight to PS2, I had a Nintendo 64 back in PS1 days. As for buying a PS3, I've been thinking about buying one ever since there price drop. But don't be surprised if I'd go straight to PS4.

I might get one, I might skip to the next gen. Not sure yet.

So there is nothing on the PS1 that interest you? What about the PS2 you are missing out on so much.......or do you notl ike RPGs?

I have missed a lot of games on PS2 I admit. I'm more casual gamer. I'll go to the store, look though the selection, see something interesting and buy it. Then I could play that game for who knows how long. I played GTA SA since it came out, I still play it. I'm just about to hit year 4 in Universe mode on WWE 2011, I've passed Juiced I don't know how many times. I've played though God Of War 1 & 2 at least 3 or 4 times.

As far as 360/PS3, I play lots of that at my buddies, mostly taking turns on single player, and playing split screen co-op on games that support it. We've both passed up on the online so far. I'm more then happy with the amount of time I play PS3/360 at his place, and I'm not there every day either.

With PS1, I just wasn't a Sony boy back then. I owned a old SNES as a child, sold it (regrets it now, but it's gone), decided to stick with Nintendo and brought a 64. It was when PS2 came that I got into Sony. Looking online I've seen quite a few games I wouldn't mind trying, a lot more was PS2 then PS3 games though. Hench my disappointment of Sony removing PS2 BC from PS3. I'd play a PS3 about 75% up-scaled PS2 games, and about 25% actual PS3 games. Some PS3 games I'd like to own are GTA4, GOW3, Heavy Rain, and Bayonetta looks fun. I don't care for how Little Big Planet looks, or for the Killzone series. I'd give KZ a once though like the PS2 game.

I'd probably buy WWE 2012 if I had a PS3, or re-buy 2011, spend some time getting used to online gaming. Beating complete noobs and getting my ass handed to me by expert players.

Anyway, point is, I wouldn't mind having a PS3. But I could get online and have enough PS2 games to last me well though this generation and beyond. I don't need the latest and greatest to be happy, or a massive collection on that matter. Between having a hand full of enjoyable games, having music and movies, having internet (mostly foruming and youtube) and in general just getting out. I'm happy.

GTAIV is the best in the series would definately recommend it! LittleBigPlanet is awesome especially if you do like platformers. There are also the Ratchet &Clank games on the PS3 aswell they are great. GoW3 and Heavy Rain are both excellent and i recommend the uncharted games. There are also RPGS flowing out the pipelines that are great if your interested in those kinds of games. My first actual system that I owned was a N64 it was great.

I forgot Just Cruise 2, I like that one to.

GTA4 is ok, I've played it. I think I lean a little more in favor of GTASA then GTA4. I like going to the airport in SA and stealing jet planes, then attempting to fly low through a city. I've never made it yet without crashing lol. You can fly helicopters in 4, but heli's are no fun. With a plane, you crash, you go boom XD.

I also get bored driving around 4 fast as it's mostly city streets, and although the realistic sim driving is cool at first, it gets tiresome and just slows down the game play. SA had varying surroundings from forests, to field, to deserts, to city's, to mountains. It's just a more enjoyable game for cruising around and having random fun.

Both SA and Just Cruise >>> GTA4. Well, in my opinion.

Not that I dislike 4, I just don't see myself playing it half as much after completing it as I do SA.

I'll have to check out the Uncharted games, same as Heavy Rain. I have played GOW 3, I agree it's a lot of fun.

Is it only me, or is GOW 3 like way harder then either 1 or 2 was? XD

Well nothing has been stated except that it will be cheaper to manufacture at launch then PS3 was at launch.
