| Instead of just quote copy/pasting, I'm going to run through why I love most of these genres.
RPGs: They have the best stories out of any genre. The level up systems in most of them are amazing and the gameplay is just awesome. Music is usually really good too. Characters usually have the most time to develop in these games.
Action/Adventure: These usually have some of the best gameplay. Example being Sonic Adventure 2. The gameplay mechanics are the most diverse in this area, so you get a different taste of gameplay throughout this genre. They can have amazing stories too and good music.
Fighting: The competitiveness of fighting games really gives off a hype that is great for these type of gamers. The mechanics can be similar but great nonetheless. You get a great taste of characters and such here. One of the best gameplay genres.
Shooters: Whether it be 3rd Person, 1st person or whatever, shooters are at least fun even they are generic. Stories will vary between shit and good. These games usually have the best online replay value. The satisfaction of shooting the hell out of an online person that makes fun of you knows no bounds.
Sports: While there usually isn't any story to these, if you're a sports fan, you enjoy these quite a bit. You can create your own scenarios with your favorite sports teams and crush all those who oppose you. Hooray for revenge matches.
-Racing: Falling under sports and having its own sub-genre gives this another look. Most racing games are fun, but can be hard to control sometimes. Some racing games have unstable controls but some like Mario Kart are incredibly smooth and fun to play for a long time.
Side Scrolling: These usually have some great gameplay, even if they're rather generic. Most 2D Castlevania games are set up the same way and Double Dragon, Ninja Gaiden, Ninja Turtles, X-Men and Strider have similar setups. This doesn't hinder them from being just plain awesome classics. The stories will vary like the shooter games. The old Sonic games and Mega Man X's are great examples of awesome side scrolling. Can be very frustrating games.
Platforming: While these, along with Side Scrollers, can be very frustrating games, they are usually very fun games and have some good stories. The Uncharted series, which can qualify as a shooter but more so a platforming game, has an incredible mix of story, gameplay and characters. For the most part, platformers will either be very choppy or very smooth. Some spots of Prince of Persia can be choppy as well as Uncharted 1, but with Uncharted 2 and other spots of Prince of Persia, it can be very smooth and fun.
Music: THE MOST GENERIC GENRE OF THEM ALL. Seems like every music game out there these days is a Guitar Hero or a Guitar Hero/Rock Band knock off. Nevertheless, these games are quite enjoyable and challenging at first. There is no story generally, but the gameplay is fun and the music is usually quite enjoyable.
Mystery/Point and Click: These are few in number and are some of the most unique games. Games like Ace Attorney and Professor Layton implement mysterious and great stories while adding a touch of decent to good gameplay. The music is usually focused well on these. Although you don't do much as far as gameplay, it is usually bypassed by enjoyable scenes and music.
Out of these, I'd say my favorite is the RPG genre. I prefer the best stories as well as a great mix of gameplay, characters and music. Action/Adventure is certainly my second favorite.

| Shooting and Racing make a big part of my games. DBZ covers most my fighters (with Urban Reign and a few MK games with the exception.) Then there are action-adventure games like God Of War 1 & 2, GTA SA, and Driver 3. | |

| Right now, my favorite genre is the Fighting genre. I like how it requires you to be focused at all times and most of the time, requires you to be experienced at gaming to do well in them. It's also addicting when done correctly, a la, the Super Smash Bros. series. | |

| I'll play just about anything, but the genre I play the most is RPGs. Though I do enjoy games like Zelda and Metroid. I will say that I am not a big fan of FPS games, sports, and, music games. | |

RPG/MMORPG-These types of games are more then games, there adventure for me. I feel like every character has a back story (For most games atleast) and that it gets deeper for an epic ending (Mostly) (Favorite games-Fallout,Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, etc.)
Action/Adventure-I think for me personal sums up every video game ever made (even puzzle games) (Favorite games-Too many to count)
Puzzle-Addicting as all hell and sometime never ending but I'll come back every time (Favorite games-Breakout and Tetris)
Platformer-Mario, Sonic, and almost every other game of the 8-bit/16 bit generation. Nothing else more. (Favorites-Mario and LBP.
RTS-Always keeps up for play for hours! (Favorite-Civilization, Age of Empires, Starcraft)
Least Favorite
FPS/TPS-You do the same stuff OVER AND OVER AND OVER again! Just kill, kill, and kill! (Favorite-Halo, Battlefield, and yes, even Call of duty (Only up to MW1)
Survival Horror-It's not the genre's bad, it's that's it dieing out and with barely enough games (No, I am going to keep that RE5 isn't a SH, it's a goddamn action game!)
Fighting-It's not that I hate it, it's just I suck at it. (Favorite-Mortal Kombat)
That's all for now. | |

| RE5 is most certainly a TPS. By the way, your description of FPS/TPS describes many Action/Adventures and RPGs. Namely the hack and slash subdivision of Action/Adventure. | |
