| So I decided to play me some old classics and what better way to do it with Resident Evil 3: Nemesis as I recently got it and haven't played it for nearly 7 or so years. I booted it up on my PS3 and was wondering if it would be a safer bet to make an internal memory card for my PS games or just use my good old fashion PS/PS2 and my PS physical memory card to play my PS games from here on out? What would you all do? | |

| I like the internal memory card because of the amount of storage. If you're worrying about YLOD, then you could use the physical memory card. | |

Well as YLOD is an external problem then everything should be ok but you never know there could be a HDD failur anf i'd lose my saves but with a physical memory card it will ruin with age probably and you can't easily put those saves onto say your computer like you could with a PS3 correct?

You can always backup your data onto many things.

| I hate memory cards. If you have a lot of games (as of PS1, N64, etc.) then you're going to need a lot of memory cards (depending on games of course). My Gamecube, I have so many games. Animal Crossing needs its own card that it came with, I have three others and one holds 256 blocks which fills up fast. So after sorting the wheat from the chaff and selling off my shitty games, I had to dick around with the memory cards and start moving memory blocks around. That's a fucking nightmare in itself. But as hard as this is to believe, I'd stick with physical memory any day. If anything should happen to any of my consoles (Wii and 360), it would be nice to keep them on physical memory as it follows: Wii's SD Card compatibility (for the VCs) and 360's detachable hard drive (yes, I have the old model and if I do decide to get an 360 Slim, I can transfer my data with that hard drive and put it into the Slim... Of course, I'd be stuck with internal memory... | |

| Physical memory card if possible. Sure they can get corrupt but that's only if you are retarded enough to turn off your game system/unplug the memory card while saving. I'd prefer to delete stuff that I'll never play to make room for a different game.
If I can't have a physical memory card, I'll use a backup (like the SD card for the Wii).

Yeah, with 360 you definitely need physical memory. My PS3 just broke and I'm losing a shit ton of save data (My trophies and games are safe though). Wii, not as much. Wii has the lowest failure rate of the three main consoles (360 being the highest). That is, barring hacking. If you hack into your 360 or Wii, the failure rate will raise likely significantly.

| HDD has the advantage of mass storage, where as memory cards often fall short (like official Sony memory cards on PS2 being 8MB). Now you can buy non official cards offline, I myself have got a pair of 128MB memory cards.
Advantage of memory cards is they are small, light, and portable. That appeals to offline gamers who like to being their game saves with them when they head to a buddies house.
As for back up storage, well there is a reason PS and PS2 has 2 memory card slots. To allow you to copy data from your main memory card to a backup memory card. I think with 360 and PS3 you can back up data to your PC can't you?
In terms of failure. Both can fail. If your console fails, both can be swapped out and put into a new console. So seems pretty even in this regard. (Although if a new PS3/360 console needs to format a HDD to use it. Well that'd just suck as formatting I'm fairly sure would delete your data. But I'm ASSUMING 360/PS3 allows you to swap HDD's without losing data.)

That essentially means you lose all your save data either way.

You would think with a damn video GAME console, Sony would of designed so if hard drives ever did need to be changed to a new console (for whatever failure) that it would allow to keep your saved data. Honestly this is stupidity for a gaming machine, I'd say this is worse then removing BC to older consoles. I mean I suppose if you know your console is having problems, you can back up your data on your PC and install it on your new PS3 (or can you?). But what happens if something in your console just gives and it quits on you? All your data gone? Probably won't hurt casual players to much, but if your a collector with hundreds of games and saves... you know. That'd piss you off I assume. lol

You can always back up your data on USB Flash drives and that should do the trick.
