another generic DBZ topic, I know

Despite all their mights, Vegito failed to destroy Super Buu and was absorbed as a result.

But let's think back to the scene where Goku attempts to throw the Potara ring at Gohan, just before Gohan was absorbed. But instead of Gohan being absorbed, he successfully managed to put on the Potara earring and fused with his father.

Given this hypothetical situation where the fused duo face off against Majin Buu with Gohan's power (Yes the later is unrealistic due to event mentioned before, but this is a hypothetical situation), would you think they could have defeated Super Buu?

My answer to that is yes, they could have. At the time, Vegeta was a SSJ2 (Why is the J present in there? Curious to know) at maximum power, while Gohan could go up to Mystic Gohan, which is basically around SSJ3 power, so Gohan was considerably more powerful then Vegeta. Plus I think the relationship that Goku/Gohan have could have further increased the power with the fused hydra, whereas the sharp tensions and contrasts between Goku/Vegeta may have reduce the effectiveness of Vegito.

While your answer is correct, there is something off. Vegito was made extra powerful because Goku and Vegeta were rivals (stated by Supreme Kai). Vegito would be stronger than a Goku/Gohan fusion, but they would still own Buu hard.

I was under the impression that Vegeto allowed himself to be absorbed in order to save everyone.

^ He did. Thats why he surrounded himself with a shield before he was absorbed.

Also yeah Gokuhan would have destroyed Buu. It's just that AT must have preffered Vegito for obviuos reasons. Gokuhan would come home to chi chi permanantly fused. I think in all fair wierdness it would pose a problem.

He did.

And I would say yes, a Goku and Gohan fusion would have defiantly beaten Gohan Buu.

Vegito could of creamed Super Buu with a minimal of effort... or right, he did... He merely allowed himself to be absorbed, thinking he would save the others. He had no idea they's somehow defuse.

And yes, a Goku/Gohan fusion would of done just fine.

Gokhan>>>>>Vegetto

Unless you think the rival boost is enough to close the gap between Gohan and Vegeta. A thought that's, quite frankly, ridiculous.

Forgot about the rival boost, although I don't necessarily think it would be enough for Vegito to overpower Goku/Gohan fusion.

I agree with the later, not with the former. Like I said before, Gohan is capable of turning into Mystic Gohan in the anime, which is essentially his SSJ3 version, which is stronger then a SSJ2 form which was Vegeta's max in the anime. Thus, Goku and Gohan have more equality in power levels, that's why I think they would be stronger then Vegito.

Of course the rival boost would be enough. Two weak SSJs such as Trunk and Goten were able to match Super Buu's power. They were also rivals despite their friendship and look how strong they were able to become. Vegeta and Goku's rivalry was much stronger and they were loads stronger than their sons.

The equality in power was only for the dance. The potara doesn't care about that.

PostSubject: Re: Would Goku and Gohan fused together have defeated Super Buu?   Would Goku and Gohan fused together have defeated Super Buu? EmptySeptember 21st 2011, 6:41 pm

I was actually talking about this same thing with someone I know and he told me that he thought it would have been better if A) Goku had been the one to be absorbed and B) Gohan then fused with Vegeta, and I actually agree with him on that. I think it would have been better. That way, Buu would have proved a more dangerous threat. I know that Gohan is actually stronger than Goku, but if Buu had absorbed Goku, he could then employ Goku's forgotten Kaioken technique to amplify his power by 10X. And the fusion between Vegeta and Gohan, I think, might not have been as strong as a Goku/Gohan fusion, but would have at least been more interesting.

First off, it would have not ended in such a chliché way, with Goku of course being the hero....again. I like Goku and everything and I know that he's the "leader", but he's been dead for seven years after having his son beat Cell. And he's saved the earth enough times, don't you think. There's only so much one guy can do. You know, I actually read that after Cell, Toriyama was planning to have Gohan take Goku's place as the main protagonist of the series, but of course because the fans freaked out over not having Goku around, he decided to go a different route.

Second, I think the character dynamics for that situation would have been much more interesting than the Goku/Vegeta fusion. Think about it, Gohan and Vegeta had a fair amount of tension between them because of Vegeta's need to surpass what he viewed as the ultimate strength that Gohan possessed while fighting Cell and his disappointment that Gohan had let his training fall to the wayside during those seven years of peace. And now that Gohan had again surpassed him in strength thanks to Old Kai, I imagine Vegeta would view that as really unfair; that he put so much work into catching up with Gohan, only to be surpassed by him again.

I know that Goku and Vegeta had been serious rivals in the past, but by the time of the fusion saga, there really was no beef between them. But in the seven years of Goku's absence, a Vegeta/Gohan rivalry had formed (at least on Vegeta's part). So, in my opinion, to have those two fuse would have been epic, not only in terms of strength, but also in character development. That might have made the Buu saga worth watching. What do you think about that?

Yeah, I don't know if I mentioned this but I did not like the Buu saga. I remember the only reason I watched it was because I wanted to see Mr. Satan come clean to the people of Earth about who really killed Cell, but of course that never happened. Well at least Videl found out the truth.

Anyway, maybe we should mail Toriyama and ask him to rewrite it as our version instead. haha

Vegeta and Goku were still rivals. Vegeta always had some bad blood with Goku until Kid Buu. Vegeta didn't really care much about Gohan and honestly pitied him that he got weaker over 7 years.

Well, I sort of see it differently. Vegeta spent seven years trying to ensure that both he and his son would be able to surpass Gohan in strength. When you devote that much time to surpassing someone, at some point you have to start viewing them as a rival. It may have started out as a way for him to compete with Goku, but from the interactions between Vegeta and Gohan that I saw after, I could see that Vegeta had very made it into a goal of his to beat Gohan.

And as far as the pity thing goes, I think that was more so disappointment on Vegeta's side that Gohan wasn't at his best and therefore he was competing with a lesser version. And the fact that Gohan had again surpassed him because of Elder Kai's ritual, not from hard work and training (which Vegeta had done for the past seven years in hopes of catching up with Gohan) would be perceived by Vegeta as being wholly unfair.

At the point of the Majin Buu saga, Vegeta and Goku's rivalry had really more so devolved to a friendly competition, while on the other hand, Vegeta seemed to have a vested interest in proving he was stronger than Gohan. So to have Gohan, who hadn't trained in the past seven years, again surpass him is something that I imagine would piss him off...a lot.

It was never stated that Vegeta trained for seven years to surpass just Gohan. Vegeta is a sayain and so he strives to be stronger first and foremost.

Do you remember why Vegeta accepted the Majin power up? It was so he could fight on equal or better terms with Goku. He resented Goku still so much that he was even willing to accept help.

Of course, it was also Vegeta who allowed for Gohan to defeat Cell.

1) Yeah actually it was. When Gohan visited Bulma and Vegeta's house, Vegeta explicitly states that while Gohan was stronger than him when they fought Cell, that he has been training all this time while Gohan sat by and "studied and went on dates".

2) Actually, he even explains to Goku that he accepts Babidy's help more so to return to his quest to be the perfect warrior. He wanted to reawaken his evil because he wanted to become the strongest again (just the strongest, not necessarily stringer than Goku), not believing that he had allowed himself to become one of the Z Fighters, peaceful and settled down with a family, and that he had allowed himself to be surpassed by Goku AND Gohan (as an 11-year old boy).

3) Well, yeah, but only by providing a small distraction that split Cell's attention and let Gohan blast him to hell. It's not like Vegeta actually did any physical damage to Cell.

Well, Gohan is the strongest of the unfused characters, so for Vegeta to reach his goal and become the strongest, he'd have to surpass Gohan more so than anyone else. And if you were Vegeta, what would be more insulting, being surpassed by another full-booded Saiyan who just happens to be of a lower class than you, or by his half-Saiyan son.

And second, I still think it would have been more interesting to have Vegeta and Gohan fuse

1: That does not translate to wanting to surpass just Gohan.

3: Still, he wouldn't have won otherwise.

Vegeta didn't know anything about Chou Gohan when he came back. But it would have been interesting.

Sorry for bumping the topic after almost half a year.
I think Gokhan(?) would have defeated Super Buu. I also think that Vegito could be stronger than the Goku-Gohan fusion because of the rivalry between Goku and Vegeta.
By the way:

Why is the J present in there? Curious to know.
I think the J letter is present in there because of the Japanese translation Super Saiyan-Jin.

Of course Gohkan would have defeated Super Buu. Gohan alone was more powerful and Goku was somewhere close to that power level (Ambiguous). So naturally if they fused they'd be stronger than Buutenks.

I still stand by what I said.

I don't know if Manga is different, but in Anime after Vegito went SSJ Super Buu couldn't lay a finger on him. When Buu did catch Vegito he powered out in no time. Given this, a fusion between Gohan and Goku, which would likely of been even stronger, it's pretty obvious they would of won. They would of been fight Buu in their sleep for god sake.

Thing is Buu seems to be in some way magic which caused the earrings to fail. This means if Gokhan went inside Buu to save the others, the same idea Vegito had. They, also would of ended up defused. Main difference is that Gohan, unlike Vegeta, wouldn't of crushed the earring.

But technically, Vegito never lost. That's the same as saying Gogeta lost if he exceeded his 30 minute time limit.

More like the main difference is that Gohan was flat out more powerful than Super Buu and so once they freed everyone Buu absorbed they wouldn't even need fusion to beat him.

Gohan>Vegeta by a huge margin. So Goku fused with Gohan would PWN Boohan even without the rage boost.
