PostSubject: Comic Books Thread   Comic Books Thread EmptySeptember 1st 2014, 1:07 am

So, lately I've been reading Comic Books a bit more than usually. I was always a fan, but never really of the Marvel/DC stuff though I've read some of those too so I thought why not make a thread?

Anyway, to hit it off, lately I've been reading stuff by Stjepan Šejić as he is based in deviant Art and basically offers his work for free there.

I'm reading 2 of his comics at the moment. One of them is Sunstone which he posts as shiniez on dA and the other one is Death Vigil which he posts under the username nebezial.

Sunstone is more of a slice of life thingy though the life it observes is rather peculiar, but I'll leave that for you to figure out if you are interested. 4th chapter is currently ongoing on dA while older chapters are being prepared for print so we get a bunch of art face-lifts, so to say.

Death Vigil on the other hand is practically some off-shot campaign of Call of Cthulhu. It is basically a story revolving around a group of Vigils, Death Knights who devoted their afterlife to fighting Necromancers and Eldritch Abominations they summon from other planes of existence. If you choose to read, Roll for San Check whenever Bernie and Sam crack a terrible pun.

Both comics are great in their own right and they share a lot of positives and flaws. For instance, both are great with characters, character interactions (especially the dialogue since I'm so freaking envious at how life-like it is since I'm striving for that in my own writings), and stories are amazingly told. It feels very lifelike and easy to relate to.

The art is a bit iffy. Character expressions are great (even more so after the face-lifts) and the characters are given a lot of attention, but the backgrounds are other rather nondescript. I get the need, but it is a damn shame because every now and then (especially in Sunstone) you get these amazing panels that you just stare at so you can really tell that the artist is capable.

Oh, I love comics. But I also like making them when they pertain to Naruto parodies. Panda lol

I can't draw and I can't edit stuff worth shit. Suffice to say, my skills in the visual art department are non-existent. XD

I used to be that way too till I cracked down and learned everything about basic editing over the course of many years. Still can't draw though.

I have issues with colours. I can't even properly match clothes so I always play it safe which is not exactly good when you try to GFX.

arkee tried to teach me some stuff, but whenever she gave me a choice, I made the wrong one. XD

Okay, so reviving the thread sorta. Death Vigil 8 just came out and it seems to be it for now though there is a definitive possibility of a continuation. All chapters have been posted on nebezial account on deviantArt and I can't stress enough how much I recommend it. It only got better as it progressed.

Okay. I've taken on another comic by Šejić. Switch. Really really good first chapter so far.
